India’s largest and most prominent stock market is the NSE (National Stock Market). Now, with a market value of more than US$3.4 trillion, it ranks as the tenth largest stock exchange globally.

The NSE is one of India's biggest stock exchanges. It was the first exchange in India to introduce electronic or screen-based trading and is an important player in the Indian financial market since it offers a platform for trading a variety of financial assets, including stocks, bonds, currencies, and mutual funds. NSE is under the ownership of various financial institutions, such as banks and insurance companies. India's stock market ranked fourth globally in January 2024, with a combined market capitalization of $4.33 trillion, including that of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

All year round, the NSE runs efficient and uninterrupted trading operations. The trading session lasts for six hours and fifteen minutes on weekdays, from 9.15 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. (regular session). There are Saturday and Sunday trading holidays observed by the NSE. All stock, equity derivative, and SLB segments will be closed to trading on these trading holidays in 2024. With the exception of Sundays, the NSE holiday list includes certain national and cultural holidays. The following events occur when the 2024 NSE Market holidays are observed:
